13th January 2007
A committee meeting was held on Wednesday 10th of January to finalise the competitions, trophies & playing formats for all of the coming seasons fixtures. The fixture list has now been updated leaving only a few minor details left to be added as & when they are received by the Secretary.
The following points were also agreed:
The playing formats for the Fourball Shield, the George Booth Memorial & the Geoff Lutner Pairs Trophy are all provisional formats as these will, as ever be dictated by the number of entries.
The G.P.Dennis Shield will be awarded to the golfer who scores the most gross birdies in all Individual Fixtures (excluding the Matchplay)
The Crocombe Trophy will be awarded to the golfer whose handicap reduces by the greatest amount over the season.
The Consistency Prize will be contested as follows, Half Points will be awarded at all Team Events & Full Points will be awarded at all Individual events (including The Matchplay). The competition will then be worked out using the players best 2 from 3 cards from Team events & best 4 from 5 cards from Individual events.
The Individual Matchplay Shield will again be run as it was in 2005.
There will be a £5 entry fee for this competition & any money collected will be split proportionally amongst the winning players.
Due to the smaller fixture list this year it will be preferred if matches can be organised outside of Society games but if this is not possible the Match Secretary will attempt to fit any request to play matches into a fixture.
Again because of the smaller fixture list entries & entry fee is to be given to any committe member by February 28th 2007. This will enable the 1st round draw to take place early March & hopefully start the compettion early.
For the full rules for the Individual Matchplay please see the Playing Formats page of the website.
The Handicap Committe will be meeting within the next two weeks to finalise handicaps for all current mebers. The relevant page of the website will be updated accordingly

22 members plus 1 guest player travelled to Henlle Park Golf Club near Gobowen to contest the George Booth Memorial & Geoff Lutner Pairs Trophies.
On a scorching hot day in a beautiful setting, scoring matched the weather. With 2 late withdrawals a revamped format for the morning 9 hole George Booth Memorial saw Adrian Brooks,Stuart Davis & Ron Washbrook shoot a 7 under par score of 49 points. In 2nd place at 2 under par with 44 points were Adrian Gould & Paul Rowberry the 3rd score for the team being made up with a "ghost player". in 3 rd place only losing by count back were Eric Clifton,Manny Dalton & Phil Latham.
After a light lunch play resumed in the afternoon for the Geoff Lutner Pairs Trophy played as a Bogey competition. Again the scoring matched the weather with Bob Edwards & Pete Williams leading the way after 9 holes being a remarkable 8 up on the course. Unfortunately they were unable to continue with their high scoring on the back 9 as the Mark Chesney / Paul Rowberry pairing & the scratch pair of Sammy Hind & Chris Munn gradually pulled them back.Eventually with 2 winning holes in the last 3 Chris & Sammy won the day finishing 5 up on the course with Mark & Paul just pippping Bob & Pete at 4 up by virtue of a better back 9.
All in all a superb day on a very new but excellent course with good weather, good food & some good golf played.

All the remaining competitions were resolved on the day & during the evening the annual prize presentation took place. An excellent day on an excellent course ,only spoiled by the behaviour of another society named Epure playing the venue on the same day when clearly the majority of their members had no idea whatsoever of the basic rules or etiquette required to play golf. A succesful annual General meeting was held at Perton Park Golf club on Wednesday 31st of October,
14 members attended & 5 more sent their apologies.
The Chairman opened the meeting & thanked the 14 attendees for their attendance
The minutes of the last A.G.M. held in 2005 were read and accepted.
The Chairman then gave the meeting an update to the 2005 A.G.M regarding the suspension of the Society in 2006 & its ultimate reformation in 2007 & the changes that had taken place. This mainly involved the introduction of the bank account, the setting up of the website & the removal of membership restrictions. The Chairman asked for a vote of thanks to be recorded for the work Ian Moorby had given the Society in his role of Match Secretary a post which he had relinquished after 13 years. The Chairman also asked for a vote of thanks to be recorded for all of the Committe from 2007 for all of their efforts in what had proven to be a very different Society to the one previously know.
The Secretary read his report on the season reflecting on his first year of office & again the Chairman asked for a vote of thanks to be recorded for the work Ron had done very successfully. At this point the Chairman also offered his own personal thanks to Ron for the support he gave in implementing the dramatic changes to the way the society was now run.
The Treasurer read his report & stated that the Society bank account now held 551 pounds at the end of the season. The Treasurer reported that the financial side of the Society was now much easier to operate with a bank account & cheque book than it was before. He also explained that the Society funds were now safer that ever as 2 Society officers had to authorise all payments from the bank account. To close the Treasurer urged members to make more use of the banking facility which would make things even easier to run. Again the Chairman asked for a vote of thanks to be recorded for the work John had done this year. At this point the Chairman also offered his own personal thanks to John for the support he gave in implementing the dramatic changes to the way the society was now run.
The Match Secretary read his report stating that due to the web site his job was now very simple. The Chairman asked for a vote of thanks to be recorded fot the work Pete had done this year.

A discussion then took place regarding the fixtures for 2007.The meeting agreed that the current formula was working & the fixture list would be the same for 2008. 4 Friday afternoon fixtures & 2 day fixtures. It was agreed that the Henelle Park fixture would again be used for one of the day fixtures with the Captain choosing the other. For the Friday fixtures it was agredd to try & source 2 new venues & possibly return to some of the courses we had not played for many years. The Wrekin, Oswestry & Shifnal were all discussed as possible venues.
AMENDMENTS TO RULES:
The Chairman recapped on the changes that had been made this year & advised the meeting of the various Society rules that needed to be amended to reflect the new Society. These were read & accepted by all present & will now be updated.
ANY OTHER BUISINESS:
The incoming Captain voiced his concern in respect of vetting prospective new members & etiquette in general. A discussion took place about members knowledge of the basic rules of golf. The Chairman also voiced his concern about the apparent trend towards bad etiquette slowly creeping into Society fixtures & asked all members to show more respect for the game & their playing partners. He also stated that the Society had always had a reputation for good behaviour & did not want to see a gradual slide away from this. The possibilty was discussed regarding a committe member going out in each group next year in order to alleviate any rule infringements & uphold good standards of etiquette.
No other matters were bought up so the Chairman closed the meeting at 8.50 p.m. Thanking all who attended.
